CAT-CAD: A Computer-Aided Diagnosis Tool for Cataplexy

Narcolepsy with cataplexy is a severe lifelong disorder characterized, among others, by sudden loss of bilateral face muscle tone triggered emotions (cataplexy). A recent approach for the diagnosis disease based on completely manual analysis video recordings patients undergoing emotional stimulation made on-site medical specialists, looking specific facial behavior motor phenomena. We present here CAT-CAD tool automatic detection symptoms, double aim (1) supporting neurologists in diagnosis/monitoring and (2) facilitating experience patients, allowing them to conduct at home. includes front-end interface (for playback/inspection patient retrieval videos relevant one currently played) back-end AI-based analyzer (able automatically detect presence symptoms recording). Analysis patients’ discovering landmarks, an alternative implementation analyzer, exploiting deep-learning techniques, introduced. Performance both approaches experimentally evaluated using benchmark real recordings, demonstrating effectiveness proposed solutions.
